Today is the International Day on Countering Hate Speech.
Hate speech is serious global concern.
It's a dark cloud that hovers over our societies, causing divisions and destruction.
It breeds discrimination, marginalisation, and poses a direct threat to the peace and harmony we strive for.
In recognising the immense power of words, it is our duty to raise our voices against hateful rhetoric.
That’s why this year, the United Nations Country Team in Azerbaijan has adopted an Action Plan on Countering Hate Speech.
We are not doing it alone.
But in close partnership with the government, academia, civil society, and media, to tackle this issue head-on.
Our approach is comprehensive, we are working towards addressing hate speech through raising awareness and advocating for change. We're developing guidelines, building up skills and knowledge, and embracing new technologies.
We will continue to challenge harmful social norms, break gender stereotypes, and make sure human rights are integrated into educational curriculums.
We also want to promote cross-border intercultural dialogue, because understanding and empathy have no boundaries.
Together, let us build bridges of understanding, compassion, and empathy that transcend boundaries and unite us as a global community.
By doing so, we reaffirm our commitment to countering hate speech and shaping a world where tolerance and respect prevail.
