General recommendation No. 36 of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women on girls’ and women’s right to education

In the current General Recommendation, UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women provides interpretation of different elements and content of Article 10 of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women on the right of girls and women to education. The General Recommendations further outlines the obligations and responsibilities of states in ensuring this right.

Each of the UN treaty bodies publishes its interpretation of the provisions of its respective human rights treaty in the form of “general comments” and “general recommendations”.
