AQUAHACK: Water Saving Hackathon Launched by Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and UNDP

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with ‘Hackathon Azerbaijan’ launched Azerbaijan’s first-ever virtual water-themed hackathon –to crowdsource tech solutions to water challenges and help raise public awareness of the vital importance of water.

Tapping into the upcycling trend: a new platform launched by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, EU and UNDP to mark World Environment Day 2020 in Azerbaijan

A new platform has been launched to encourage more people in Azerbaijan to ‘upcycle’ products they would normally throw away. Users of the platform – called Ozun Yarat, meaning ‘do-it-yourself’, or DIY – can find and share creative ideas for repurposing and reusing items. The best three ideas will be eligible for prizes worth 3,000, 2,000 and 1,000 AZN.

Joint Statement by State Migration Service and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on access to labour market for refugees

As many countries around the globe continue to struggle with the unprecedent COVID-19 crisis, forced displacement has been on the rise and is now affecting more than one percent of humanity who have no choice but to flee conflict, persecution or events seriously disturbing public order and are unable to return home. With the global displaced population at its highest number of 79.5 million ever recorded in the world’s history, the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) continue to work together towards enhancing the conditions for local integration for some 2,000 refugees and asylum-seekers under UNHCR’s mandate.
